Detonating cord

Detonating cord consists of a core of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), wrapped in various coverings of cotton and synthetic yarns, which increase the tensile strength and flexibility. A thin layer of PVC protects detonating cord against moisture.

Description

Application

Detonating cord is a very common firing device. It can be initiated by an electric or a plain detonator No.8 and detonates along its entire length with a velocity of about 6,800 m/sec. Detonating cord can be used:

  • When difficult climatic conditions do not permit the use of electric initiation.
  • When simultaneous detonation of several drill holes is desired.
  • To transmit detonation from the surface to the drill holes.
  • Underwater detonation.

Detonating cord with different core Load of PETN can be used, depending on the primer or the explosive charge we need to initiate. Care must be taken in the case of AN-FO, where detonating cord with insufficient core Load of PETN may cause incomplete detonation. When using detonating cord, the following should be considered:

  • Keep its connection at a right angle.
  • The distance between parallel cords should not be less than 0.2 m.
  • The distance between cord delay relay and parallel cord should be at least 1.0 m.
  • No kinks, bends or loops are allowed in the round.
  • The initiating detonator should always be pointed in the desired direction of the detonating cord detonation.

Packaging

Depending on the application, detonating cord with different core load of PETN is available. Detonating cord is wound on reels and packed in laminated carton cases.

Storage

Detonating cord is an explosive and should be handled stored and used according to the national laws and regulations. It should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Storage temperature between +5oC and +30oC is highly recommended.

Provided that storage conditions are appropriate, it is recommended to use detonating cord within 24 months.

Product shelf life expansion can be verified after examined by the supplier.
